The Outdoor Kitchen and Edible Garden together offer opportunities for school programs centered on plants as sources of food, health and wellness. Students can learn about the food they eat, where it comes from, and how to cook it as well as participate in engaging culinary lessons. Programs include cooking demonstrations and hands-on activities. A maximum of 60 students can be accommodated.

Forty lucky middle school students from Bok Academy were the first to attend a cooking class at Bok Tower Gardens’ new Outdoor Kitchen in the spring of 2016. The students helped to select fresh produce from the Edible Garden, then turned those ingredients into delicious pizzas in the wood-fired oven under the direction of celebrated Chef David Bearl. The student cooking class was part of an ongoing partnership between Bok Tower Gardens and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). As an added bonus, Lake Wales High School Culinary Arts students served as student mentors.
