Learn about the historic significance of Pine Needle Basketry in Florida while making your very own pine needle basket the same way the early Pioneers did. Prepare for a fun and relaxing day as you create a pine needle trinket basket. All written materials and basket making supplies are furnished for you along with plenty of hands on instruction. By the end of the day, you will learn all the skills necessary to start your own tradition of Pine Needle Basketry in your family. No previous experience is necessary. Class size is limited to 8 students.
Artist Statement
Many years ago, I bought a Pine Needle Basketry book and taught myself the basic techniques of coiled basketry. Since that time, I have grown to love this historic art form handed down through the ages from native Florida Indians to early pioneers. I have been teaching pine needle basketry to both children and adults ever since. A distinguishing feature of most pine needle creations is the delicate and varied stitching that holds the coils together. My pine needle baskets showcase these traditional methods interpreted with a contemporary flair.

Please Note:
Ticket price includes general admission to the Gardens. Tickets are available for purchase at www.boktower.org, in person at the Visitor Center or by phone at 863-734-1222. All programs and classes promptly begin at stated time and visitors are encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins for check-in. Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Culinary events are demonstration based and late arrivals may not be accommodated. For classes held after 5 pm, the entrance gate will stay open for an additional 30 minutes after the start time. Once the gate closes, late arrivals will not be admitted. Due to the nature of culinary events held at the Outdoor Kitchen, Bok Tower Garden may attempt, but cannot guarantee, to accommodate food allergies. Dogs are not permitted at any educational program.
