Share the Gift Fund

Unrestricted gifts to this fund support critical programming needs of the Gardens and are tax-deductible.

We’re getting the word out to our members and friends to act now to help us bring a number of young children to Bok Tower Gardens this April to reconnect them with nature.

Do you remember all the many hours you spent playing outdoors when you were young? Like many, you probably explored nearby woods or played games like hide-and-seek. Our play was imaginative, physical, and unstructured.

DONATE NOW

Today our schools are teaching kids about the environment, but are limited in helping them to develop a personal relationship with the world outside their own doors. And with technology in the classroom and at home, we are making it ever easier for children to spend less time outside.

In fact, many national movements, including the “No Child Left Inside Act,” have demonstrated the critical importance of getting children outside.  These movements encourage the use of public green spaces and educate about the benefits of being outside that foster children’s curiosity, creativity, health and well-being.

The Earth Day Celebration at Bok Tower Gardens, which will take place April 15-16, puts children back in touch with nature with simple but impactful activities such as:

  • Climbing a tree
  • Walking through a butterfly house
  • Hiking the Pine Ridge Trail
  • Garden hunting …….and more

This year, however, an increasing number of area children cannot afford even the small fee we must charge to cover the costs of making Earth Day possible.

We recently received a number of calls from area schools wanting to know if there are scholarship funds available to help bring their kids to Earth Day this year. Many of these schools have up to 97% of their students on the free/reduced lunch program and are in desperate need of financial assistance to make this April trip to Bok Tower Gardens possible.

Please take a moment right now to make a secure online donation today of $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can to sponsor these children, or a classroom of students, for Earth Day at Bok Tower Gardens. Our goal is to raise $10,000 before March 15 so we can give these teachers the green light to start planning their trip.

Help us get children back to nature by “sharing the gift” today.
