Executive Summary
To share Edward Bok’s gift of a beautiful and serene garden with music, architecture, and nature, so that all who visit will be inspired by his vision: “Make you the world a bit better or more beautiful because you have lived in it.”
To offer visitors a unique experience in a world-class garden where one can find beauty, peace, and inspiration.
A. Objective: Brand and market Bok Tower Gardens as one of the world’s finest gardens that is recognized as a top destination to visit.
B. Objective: Ensure that the Tower and its art, gardens, archives, carillon, Pinewood Estate, and adjoining open lands are protected and preserved.
C. Objective: Maintain a high level of integrity and quality in the presentation methods used to educate the public about us.
A. Objective: Manage natural, agricultural, and open lands to promote a diversity of native plant and animal life, along with preservation of historic and agricultural land use.
B. Objective: Conserve rare plant species through research, display, and education.
C. Objective: Promote environmental education through youth and adult education programs.
D. Objective: Conserve resources through operational practices that reduce waste and negative impact to the environment.
A. Objective: Create a campus master plan to bring all functions (present and future) of the grounds and facilities into an effective and organized layout.
B. Objective: Balance staff and volunteer resources to achieve highest standards possible for presentation and customer service.
C. Objective: Ensure our facilities are providing the needed services and amenities at a very high level of quality.
D. Objective: Incorporate technology and other resources as necessary to improve the quality of our presentations and customer service.
A. Objective: Respond to societal, community and constituent needs, tourism development impact such as LEGOLAND, and stay current with industry trends.
B. Objective: Take an active role in community/regional affairs (economic development, transportation routes, VCBs, tourism efforts, advocacy, etc).
C. Objective: Optimize the number of “points of connection” with the public (e.g. events, concert venue, wedding place, place to eat lunch) by marketing Bok Tower Gardens as a destination with multiple facets.
D. Objective: Engage others in the culture of Bok Tower Gardens via education and interpretive programs.
E. Objective: Invite access and increase outreach to those who may have barriers to attendance.
A. Objective: Achieve a high-functioning Board via effective recruitment, development and governance.
B. Objective: Maintain a high-functioning staff dedicated to working as a team to execute the vision with clear objectives and accountability measures.
C. Objective: Create efficient and sustainable income from operations such as events, programs, concerts, and facilities.
D. Objective: Accelerate growth of earned and contributed income to overcome the projected structural deficit.
